So when the lovely people at The Soup asked me if I wanted to try the new Vita-Wheat Lunch Slices, OF COURSE I said yes.
So. What are they like? Well, they are basically like regular Vita-Wheat biscuits on steroids! More than twice the size, and packed full of seeds and grains, they are a great alternative to bread for lunch.
I was sent sample packs of each of the four varieties - soy and linseed; sunflower, oats and chia; poppy, sunflower and rye; and sunflower, pumpkin and canola. I'd tell you my favourite but they are all pretty good! What I REALLY like is that I can pronounce all the ingredients. And yes, my grandmothers would have been familiar with them all too.
As well as sending me a bunch of samples, I've also been given a fabulous prize to give-away. This GREAT hamper will go to my reader who comes up with the most delicious sounding topping combo. So get your thinking caps on!

Does anything beat good old Vegemite? ;)
Soo many possibilities! While living in Sth Aust, I was introduced to the wonders of Vegemite and cheese. But what about a sweet topping? Mascarpone sweetened with icing sugar, topped with strawberries macerated in Balsamic and candied hazelnuts. Might sound weird, but it's kind of like using the Vita Weats as a biscuit base just like a cheesecake!

Yep, Vegemite is hard to beat! Especially when teamed with butter. mmmm.
Bec, not thought of sweet - might have to try that!
Nutella and banana, definitely! :)
When I was a student, I lived off a few simple things. One of them being Vita Weats. My favourite topping was (and still is) leftover potato salad, sliced hard boiled egg, chopped gerkins and sometimes if I had some in the fridge .. smoked ham.. Yumo. THE BEST STUDY FOOD!!
Well in my fantasy life I'd put prosciutto, sliced fresh fig and some gorgonzola or prosciutto and fresh mango. In the reality of what is in my cupboard, I'd probably have peanut butter and homemade plum jam or a slice of ham with chutney.
Full fat cream cheese, muscavado streaky bacon and a drizzle of maple syrup. The lunch of rock stars and astronauts.
thanks to all of you for entering. Unfortunately there can only be one winner - check out here http://cooks-notebook.blogspot.com/2011/10/and-winner-is-vita-wheat-lunch-slices.html who it is :)
